Shepparton Club Raises $38,000 for Charity

An inspired hashtag has been turning golf clubs yellow every October since 2019, and our very own Shepparton Club knocked their fundraising goal out the park this year. #DoingItForJarrod was created in honour of Jarrod Lyle, who was a professional golfer and ambassador for Challenge, a not-for-profit organisation that supports children and families living with cancer.

Shepparton Golf Club member and friend of the Lyle family, Ray Sizer, said “The support from local businesses, community and clubs was outstanding. The club was aiming to raise more than $20,000 and hit that target before the day even began. Sizer commented, “We made $25,000 before we even started the day just by asking businesses for $1000 or whatever they could afford.”

With almost 200 people participating on the day, the club was able to donate most of the money from each participant’s $15 fee entry. There was also a putting challenge where players paid $10 for three putts to go into the draw for cash prizes, and an auction contributing a huge $8000 to the total raised. Popular items from the auction included signed flags donated by Geoff Ogilvy from his 2006 US Open triumph at Winged Foot and autographed merchandise by the 2021 AFL premiers Melbourne Football Club.

Shepparton Club is now encouraging other clubs to get behind the cause, with Sizer commenting on the amount raised that, it’s a great number but it doesn’t matter whether it’s a huge amount or a little amount… The whole idea of this was to raise as much money for Jarrod’s cause as possible and to encourage other clubs to do it too.”

It’s great to see just how much our wonderful clubs contribute to the community. Hats off to Shepparton Club!
