The Self-Exclusion (EASE) Program

Feb 27, 2024 | ClubHub

The club sector has implemented a highly effective self-exclusion program, known as the EASE program, allowing individuals who recognise an issue with their gaming machine to ban themselves from specific venues voluntarily.

To ensure accessibility, the program offers various methods to sign up:

Face to Face appointments with the self-exclusion program.
Online application via the CCV website – Self Exclude with EASE.
Over-the-phone applications.
Through a Therapeutic Counselling Service
On-site at participating local clubs, where club managers assist in the sign-up process.

Upon signing up for the program, participants provide their consent and have their photo taken, which is securely stored in a private area of the venue. This photo is a discreet means for staff and management to identify individuals attempting to access the gaming area from which they have voluntarily excluded themselves.

It’s important to note that while participants are barred from gaming areas, they are still welcome to engage in other activities within the club – this is deliberate to avoid any potential stigmatism.

Feedback from program participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing the decision to self-exclude has empowered them to regain control over their behaviour. Only a few individuals attempt to breach the agreement by entering the gaming area.

Gambling support agencies have lauded this approach for combining counselling opportunities with the individual’s commitment to change. Club managers and supervisors have also found the program to be an efficient way to address the needs of their members while fostering open conversations. The process is not overly time-consuming and demonstrates a heightened level of patron care.

We thank the clubs participating in the Self-Exclusion Program 2 (SEP2) for their willingness to contribute and conduct interviews, showcasing their commitment to fostering a responsible gaming environment.

If your club is interested in learning more about the EASE program or participating, please get in touch with the Self-Exclusion Team at 8851 4949. It’s important to note that operating gaming machines is not a prerequisite for participation in this program.

We sincerely thank all the clubs supporting the Club Self-Exclusion Program SEP2 for their dedication to promoting responsible gaming practices and prioritising the well-being of their patrons.
